Excursion #1 The Saint-Louis-Arzviller inclined plane is a part of the Marne-Rhine Canal. Located between Saint-Louis and Arzviller in the department of the Moselle, the boatlift enables the canal to cross the Vosges Mountains. Because its design uses counterweights to balance the weight of the caisson containing the boats being moved, the entire operation can be run by two 120 horsepower electric motors, which causes a surprisingly small energy consumption. |

It made table and decorative glass, opaline, cameo, and art glass. A line of covered, pressed glass animal dishes was made in the nineteenth century. The firm is still working. |
| Excursion #5Carreau Wendel Musée du Bassin Houiller LorrainTwo hundred years of coalmining history with its characteristic architecture and mining technology can be viewed at the mining complex of the Carreau Wendel mine. The plant was shut down in 1986. Today, the complex is classified as a historical monument. The mining complex encompasses the foundations of the oldest Wendel I pit dating back to 1866, Wendel III pit (1952), the machine hall of the coal washing plant III, coal washing plants I-II (converted nine times between 1891 and 1970), a sandstone quarry, from which sand used to be blown into the underground longwall faces, as well as a slag heap several kilometres long. |
