The city of Metz will host the 14th international MOVPE (Metal Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy) conference at the ARSENAL center from the 2nd to the 6th of June 2008.  It is one of the most important world congresses in the field of Materials Sciences, their applications and their technological growth. MOVPE is the base technology for the fabrication of lasers, detectors, sensors, transistors, electroluminescent diodes structures and many other opto-electronic device structures that are semiconductor based.

Over 400 participants are expected at this conference which has become one of the major international events in the domain of thin film growth technology. It will bring together experts in materials science from industry, universities and public research. In 5 days, researchers, industrialists and students will exchange on average, over 100 oral communications and 200 scientific papers on recent advances and the major challenges materials science faces. This international event has become a crossroads of exchanges, where ideas and results are discussed and partnerships formed.
Through its 24 invited and plenary conferences presented by industrial experts and renowned universities, the scientific program of the conference wants to show the major challenges which this science of materials manufacturing faces today..
The art of thin film growth, micro and nano structuring and the characterization of the large variety of innovative materials : semiconductors, dielectrics, oxides, new technology in the structuring of nano wires, photonic and  phononic crystals, quantum dots, spintronic and plasmonic materials – will be addressed from very diverse angles including the control of their epitaxial growth and structuring. New functionalities appear which result in new materials and creative growth process or most judicious use of known materials. Solutions for structured or self organized nano objects will be presented.
In parallel to the conference, and at the same venue, an industrial and scientific exhibition of about 40 booths will be open to the participants of the conference. This exhibition aims to concretize the applications, current elaboration procedures and characterizations, technical issues, and economic impacts in the industry of materials.
In addition, the stake of materials in economic development, valorization of the research and technical reflection on future materials will be the topics of 2 round-tables, one technical on nano-materials, the other on materials research programs and financing research at national, European and international levels.
